Ladislav’s regalia included traditional “old sticks” – and the gold crown was placed on his head by Miss Roma 2011 Maria Kalinacoba, 17. Norman Foster's iconic first public building, inspired by Zeppelin Airship Hangers is reopening tomorrow (21st May 2006) after a large programme of expansion. The Centre, which first opened in 1978, was built to house the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection of world art, which the couple donated to the University in 1973. Since 1978 the Sainsbury Centre has grown to meet the changing needs of museum goers, academics and students. It was expanded in 1991 when the Crescent Wing was added, improving facilities for displaying and caring for art and providing space for new teaching and research activities. Both the Crescent Wing extension and the new building link project have been responses to the evolution of thinking in museum use. Maggi Hambling, the art world's "female Bacon", joked that she was being awarded a CBE because of the popularity of her controversial Scallop sculpture. The 12ft-high sea shell, which was erected in 2003 on Aldeburgh beach in Suffolk to celebrate the British composer Benjamin Britten, has been condemned as an eyesore by some locals. In Suffolk, her £70,000 Scallop has been repeatedly vandalised and daubed with words such as "move this tin can" and "rubbish". Norman Foster's iconic first public building, inspired by Zeppelin Airship Hangers is reopening tomorrow (21st May 2006) after a large programme of expansion. The Centre, which first opened in 1978, was built to house the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection of world art, which the couple donated to the University in 1973. Since 1978 the Sainsbury Centre has grown to meet the changing needs of museum goers, academics and students. It was expanded in 1991 when the Crescent Wing was added, improving facilities for displaying and caring for art and providing space for new teaching and research activities. Both the Crescent Wing extension and the new building link project have been responses to the evolution of thinking in museum use.
